SAGE (Serum Algorithmic Generation Engine) takes presets from the Serum 2 factory bank and returns new, named variations of them. It samples templates from the bank's nested folders, decodes each one, draws one coherent "character" for every new patch, and applies that character across the parameters the Serum 2 User Guide describes: wavetable position and warp, unison, filters, envelopes, LFOs, the modulation matrix and the FX racks.
Because the engine starts from factory presets, results inherit their oscillators, wavetables, routing and effects. Only continuous parameters move. Modes, filter types, toggles and counts are never touched.
| Control | Range / Default | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Template Source | Factory bank | Each run samples a fresh, category-balanced set of presets from the whole nested factory bank, so two runs rarely start from the same templates. |
| Archetype | Auto, Bass, Lead, Pad, Pluck, Keys, Stab, Arp, FX, Texture (Auto) | Auto reads each template's folder, name and tags and applies the matching profile. Choosing one forces that profile and draws templates of the same type. |
| Variation Strength | 10-100% (65%) | Scales how far each patch moves from its template. Low values give refined siblings, high values give bold reinterpretations. |
| RNG Seed | 0-2147483647 (0) | Enter a number to reproduce an exact run. 0 gives fresh random results each time. |
| Author Name | Up to 32 characters | Written to the author field of every preset. Letters, numbers, spaces and . _ & - only. |
Each patch gets a score on eight character axes. Every parameter is assigned a role from the User Guide and moves with the axes that role belongs to, so related controls shift together instead of at random.
| Axis | What it moves |
|---|---|
| Bright | Filter cutoff and resonance (Filter modules), wavetable position and warp (Wavetable oscillators) |
| Motion | LFO rate and depth, modulation matrix amounts, wavetable position, FX rate and depth |
| Width | Unison detune, blend and width, oscillator pan |
| Space | FX mix, size and decay time |
| Grit | Filter drive and Fat, warp, distortion drive, resonance |
| Snap | Shorter envelope attack, hold, decay, sustain and release |
| Tail | Longer release, decay and FX decay |
| Density | Unison blend and detune, granular density and window |
Guardrails keep results usable: master, main and direct levels and tuning are frozen, values that are exactly zero stay off, integer settings are skipped, and each archetype caps risky roles. Bass keeps unison width mono-compatible and FX mix tight. Pluck and Stab keep sustain and release short. Pad keeps attack and release long.
Every preset is named CC Adjective Noun, for example BS Obsidian Reese. The adjective is chosen from the patch's measured character (dark, bright, wide, grit, motion, space or clean), so the name describes the sound. Names are unique within a bank and fit Serum's browser.
| Code | Category | Folder |
|---|---|---|
| BS | Bass | Bass |
| LD | Lead | Lead |
| PD | Pad | Pad |
| PL | Pluck | Pluck |
| KY | Keys | Keys |
| ST | Stab | Stab |
| SQ | Arp / Sequence | Arp |
| FX | FX | FX |
| TX | Texture | Texture |
Each preset also carries your author name, a description with its character scores and source template, and tags for the category, its two strongest character words, BitKrunch, SAGE and 2028. Search by tag in Serum's preset browser to find them.
Unzip the bank and copy the category folders into the Presets folder inside your Serum presets folder (Windows: Documents/Xfer, macOS: /Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records). Keep them inside a folder of their own, such as SAGE, so they are easy to find. Reopen the preset browser and the new folders appear.
The bank also contains a manifest CSV listing every preset, and a report showing how many parameters moved in each role.
The full bank of 256 named presets is a flat $20, paid with PayPal or an access code. The free preview gives you one preset to audition. Purchases are governed by our Terms & Conditions.
